About This Site

Educators' Corner

Come in please...

The purpose of this website is to teach poetry writing, promote poetry appreciation, and encourage poetry collections.

Some of the best memories in life touch adults through revisiting artworks we created as children. Perhaps a picture made for Mom at age three or a story about Dad for Father's Day at age six were among the few creations stored by a thoughtful hand; enabling them to be revisited ten, fifteen, or twenty years later. I endeavor to encourage children to write and save their best work. Whether silly, funny, serious or sad, they can have more than just a page or two to reminisce over when they grow up.

Parents, teaching children to turn Theme-Stories into poems is Silly Mommy's {R. Renée Bembry's} business. She believes children who can form letters and spell can also write poems. She has incorporated Board of Education Academic Content Standards for Language Arts into Poetry Lessons found on this site, and engages children to read Theme-Stories before leading them into the poetry-writing segment of said lessons. Theme-Stories help children maintain focus while writing story-related poems. In turn, writing poems helps them improve their overall writing ability. But that's not all because Theme-Story discussions in regard to poetry-writing helps kids improve their reading comprehension. It is recommended that you allow your children to submit their poems to MyStoriesAndPoems.com for critiques so they may take full advantage of this program. Critique Request Instructions are located on the Critiques Page. So, Parents, let me help you keep your children's minds on something other than cells, ipods, and video games. Assign them to write a ThemeStory-Poem today. The first three Theme-Story Lessons are FREE!

Learn about Theme-Stories

Kids, creating poetry can help improve your overall writing ability. So, even if you're not thinking about becoming a Poet when you grow up, you can still use poetry writing as a means of becoming a better writer. Whether you want to be a doctor, a lawyer, a teacher, a business person, or whatever, you will need good writing skills. And I, Silly Mommy, at MyStoriesAndPoems.com, am eager to help you learn how to be the best you can be just by writing fun little poems. As a bonus, I will provide information that can help with School Content Standards Tests you take at school.

Everyone - Instructions on writing poems are found throughout this site in relation to Theme-Stories. Of the many poems written about Theme-Stories, however, no two poems will be the same. So please understand, it will be impossible to address everyone's individual writing needs through site instructions. Therefore, in addition to providing instructions on this site, it is necessary for me to read your poems so I can tell you how you can improve your writing. {For you kids...Reading your poems and telling you how you can improve is called giving you a critique.} Giving critiques is the only way I can tell you about your particular needs.

Now that I have explained why each poem will need its own personalized critique, please remember: (1) Poems must be critiqued in order for you to take full advantage of this program. (2) The more critiques you request, the faster you will improve. Free Critiques are offered for Theme-Story Poems and for Non-Theme-Story Poems according to instructions on the Critiques Page.

 I, SILLY MOMMY {R. Renée Bembry},

have been writing poems since childhood. Some come back to me in bits and pieces and I wish I could remember their complete verses, or that I had a collection of my favorites to hold and share with others. I have taught many children the ins and outs of poetry writing. My Theme-Story technique provides the subject matter simplifying one's ability to follow my program.

     Antique Marble Collecting

Antique marble collecting may be one of most fascinating types of hobbies there is.

The colorful 5/16 to 2 ½ inch light catching glass or stone spheres are awe inspiring.

They’re great for game-play—gently if you must —and for showcasing.

When buying antique marbles, whether as a one time deal, or to begin a collection, the first thing you might want to do is... Read More...

    Sweat - A Baseball Poem

    by R. Renée Bembry

    My Sonny Boy
    My Sonny Boy
He likes to play the sports
He gets so hot when he plays
He drinks water by the quarts
    His tiny pores
    Get gigantic
    As sweat pours
    From his hands and neck
    His back
    His feet
    His head
    His face
    Make sweat drip
    All over the place

    After his games
    I take him
