The purpose of this website is to teach poetry writing, promote poetry appreciation, and encourage poetry collections.
Some of the best memories in life touch adults through revisiting artworks we created as children. Perhaps a picture made for Mom at age three or a story about Dad for Father's Day at age six were among the few creations stored by a thoughtful hand; enabling them to be revisited ten, fifteen, or twenty years later. I endeavor to encourage children to write and save their best work. Whether silly, funny, serious or sad, they can have more than just a page or two to reminisce over when they grow up.
Parents, teaching children to turn Theme-Stories into poems is Silly Mommy's {R. Renée Bembry's} business. She believes children who can form letters and spell can also write poems. She has incorporated Board of Education Academic Content Standards for Language Arts into Poetry Lessons found on this site, and engages children to read Theme-Stories before leading them into the poetry-writing segment of said lessons. Theme-Stories help children maintain focus while writing story-related poems. In turn, writing poems helps them improve their overall writing ability. But that's not all because Theme-Story discussions in regard to poetry-writing helps kids improve their reading comprehension. It is recommended that you allow your children to submit their poems to MyStoriesAndPoems.com for critiques so they may take full advantage of this program. Critique Request Instructions are located on the Critiques Page. So, Parents, let me help you keep your children's minds on something other than cells, ipods, and video games.
