About the Website Hostess
I, Silly Mommy {AKA R. Renee Bembry} am an author who's spent a number of years perfecting my ability to write stories and poems. Now I relish in sharing that knowledge with others.
I am the webmaster of this website {MyStoriesAndPoems.com} and a second site FunnyPoemsforkids.com. I created these sites to encourage children to appreciate
poetry because I believe it is important to keep the arts alive!
I write all the stories and poems, and draw most of the pictures found on these sites that
are directly related to the sites with the exception of poems displayed on the 'Kids' Page'
at the FunnyPoemsForKids site, poems found on the 'Kids' Critique Page' on this site, and some of the art work that is drawn by my talented daughter.
The first poetry verse I recall writing I wrote because in my, then, twelve-year-old opinion, an author had eliminated important information from a cat poem my English class was deciphering. As far I as I was concerned, the poem had a much better ending after I allowed cat owners throughout the world to boast about the joyousness their cats instilled in them.
While in fifth grade, I became one of a few students at my school to engage in a program teaching younger students to read.
I taught four of my children to read, write, and compute numbers before they went to kindergarten. Through my assistance, all of these children excelled and entered the Gifted and Talented Education program (GATE) when they became grade level eligible. The first has earned her Veterinarian credentials.
In addition to teaching special children, and my own, I’ve instructed classes within and outside the realm of High School and College student status.
For the purposes of MyStoriesAndPoem workshops, my efforts will be concentrated on reinforcing Academic Content Standards for Language Arts while teaching poems that rhyme. I happen to be partial to rhyming poetry and believe they are more fun, challenging, and rewarding for kids than free verse. Children are more likely to improve their vocabulary while composing rhyming poems as the seek rhyming words to strengthen their verses.
Most of my online poetry is currently located at my first website, FunnyPoemsForKids.com. Poems children have sent in, eager to have their work displayed, can be found on the "Kids Page" at that site. A Kid's page will be added to this site in the future.
